From Settling to Subtle Shifts
The word “settle” can bring up strong emotions. None of us want to settle, so why does it happen? What holds us back from going after what we truly want? There are many reasons—comfort, familiarity, and fear. As creatures of habit, we often stay where we feel safe, even when we know there’s something more fulfilling out there.
Have you ever known exactly what you want but felt afraid of the person you’d have to become to achieve it? If so, you’re not alone. The more I discuss this with others, the more I realize how common it is. This is something I can personally relate to because the things we desire most often exist outside our comfort zones. Growth can be uncomfortable, and the final result can feel overwhelming—maybe even impossible.
But it is possible. I went from going through the motions of life to taking actions I never thought were achievable—like co-authoring a book and opening my own practice. I’ve also seen many others step out of their comfort zones to accomplish amazing things.
It doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. It starts with subtle shifts. Subtle shifts are small, intentional changes you make in your daily habits, mindset, or routine that, over time, create a significant impact. These shifts may seem minor at first, but their cumulative effect can lead to noticeable growth and transformation. They are often the first steps toward achieving bigger goals because they break down overwhelming tasks into manageable actions.
For example, instead of overhauling your entire lifestyle overnight, you might start by waking up 15 minutes earlier to meditate or write. These small adjustments gradually build momentum, leading to larger, more meaningful changes in your life. Subtle shifts are powerful because they are sustainable, allowing for steady progress without overwhelming you.
One of the most impactful changes I made was in my morning routine. I started incorporating things that filled me up, like writing, exercise, and meditation. These practices fed my soul and gave me the energy to take on bigger challenges. It all began with one small change.
So, I challenge you: think of one small thing you can do differently today. Commit to it for the next two weeks. You’ll be amazed at how a small, consistent action can lead to bigger transformations and remind you of your limitless potential.
